They call Chicago the Windy City, but after spending two days in Kansas City they might want to reconsider who gets that title. The Baseball Youth Road Trip traveled to the Tiffany Springs Sports Complex for the JustBats.com June Jam, and we were not only greeted by tons of kids but also 35-40 mph winds.
It was pretty hard to get our tents and everything else set up because of the wind, but the show must go on, right? There was no way we were going to disappoint the 60 teams that participated in the tournament. We had to get a little creative with the setup, but the main thing was that everyone had fun. There were parts of the day where the Baseball Youth area was so crowded that hardly anyone could get by.
Many of the players hadn't seen the new Louisville Slugger bat line, and they were very excited to demo the bats. Talking about the new Triton bat, a few kids told us they like to call it the "Catalyst on steroids" referring to Slugger's top bat model last year. The Triton was the most popular bat in Kansas City.
After an incredibly exciting tournament in Kansas City it's time to head to Omaha, Nebraska for several huge tournaments and the always popular NCAA College World Series. The top college baseball teams will be there competing for the 2008 National Championship, and Baseball Youth will be there checking out all the action. Stay tuned!
